The Police Are Making Preparations to Stop the Nabanna Raid, Traffic Control on Some Roads
The police are making preparations to stop the Nabanna operation with the rain in mind. Since Tuesday morning, police vans and guardrails have been parked on the left side of the two-way road of Howrah Bridge. Aluminum barricades and wooden piles are being placed right at the entrance to the Howrah Bridge. There will be barricades on all the roads leading to the Vidyasagar Bridge, another important way of communication between Kolkata and Howrah, to prevent any procession. Turf View Road, Hastings Shrine, Furlong Gate and Khidirpur Road have aluminum guardwalls.
The Kolkata Police had informed on Sunday that traffic will be controlled on several roads of Kolkata from 4 am to 10 pm on Tuesday. According to Lalbazar notification, traffic will be controlled on Vidyasagar Setu, Khidirpur Road, Taratala Road, Circular Gardenrich Road, Hyde Road. Traffic will also be controlled on Jawaharlal Nehru Road, RR Avenue, Red Road, Dufferin Road, Mayo Road, AJC Bose Road, SN Banerjee Road, MG Road, Brabourne Road and Howrah Bridge.
However, government and private buses are plying through Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Bridge till the publication of this report. However, commuters complain that there are fewer buses than other days. Many are trying to reach their destinations by alternative routes (metro and ferry services) after long waits for buses. Some of the office goers are trying to walk to work with umbrellas in the rain.
The police have planned to erect large barricades at Santragachi, Howrah Maidan, Foreshore Road, Laxminarayantala and Mandirtala to stop the Navanna raiders. Apart from this, it has been decided that the street faces around Navanna will be surrounded with barricades. Police are looking to rely on water cannons, drones and tear gas to quell the gathering.
