Aadhaar Update Deadline: Free Service Ends on September 14, 2024

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set a crucial deadline for Aadhaar cardholders whose cards are over 10 years old. By September 14, 2024, those Aadhaar cards must be updated with proof of identity and address. Post-deadline, a fee of ₹50 will be charged for any updates.

Controversy Over Aadhaar Card in West Bengal:

In 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised concerns that Aadhaar cards of 50 citizens in Jamalpur (Purba Bardhaman district) and several others in Birbhum, North and South 24 Parganas, and North Bengal had been "delinked."

In response, UIDAI clarified that no Aadhaar numbers had been cancelled, reiterating its commitment to addressing grievances and maintaining the integrity of the Aadhaar database.

Background on Aadhaar:

Aadhaar was introduced on January 28, 2009, as a national identity card. It serves multiple purposes, including authentication for government services, PAN card linking, and voter identification.

Make sure to update your Aadhaar by the deadline to avoid the ₹50 charge!
